Like Magic - 2 (Short Story by Adupeola)

It was Friday night. Derek would be here any minute and she still had no idea what she wanted to wear. She wanted a balance between dressy and casual. She didn't want him to think that she was dressing up for him. But she wanted to dress up for him.

She settled on a modest black dress that molded to her body perfectly. One could never go wrong with black right? She pulled her curly hair up in a bun leaving a few wild tendrils loose. She applied makeup leaning towards nude. A little mascara and some shiny lip gloss. She clipped on her little diamond earrings. No other jewelry. She wanted to maintain balance. She slipped on her pumps which were a cross between sexy and sensible. The heels were about 3 inches...did she know balance or what?

She was just adding the finishing touches to her makeup when the doorbell rang. She had to slow down when she caught herself running. She was both nervous and excited. She opened the door and her heart almost stopped when she saw the vision before her. He was dressed in dressy slacks and a blazer. His shoes probably cost more than her apartment. He could have fit perfectly on the cover of GQ. The man was hot. The atmosphere immediately heated up a couple of notches. When she realized how disturbed she must look opening the door and then staring at him with her mouth open, she shook her head a little. "He-hello Derek. Please come in." "You look beautiful Samantha. I brought you some flowers." She noticed the flowers for the first time.

"Thank you. Let me just put them in a vase grab my purse and we can be on our way." She hurried into the kitchen to grab a vase. She grabbed her purse on the table slipped into her coat and went to join him. She smiled and said, "I'm ready". Then the craziest thing happened. She still wasn't sure she didn't dream that part up. He stood up lazily but purposefully. He was right in front of her in 2 long strides and the last thing she remembered was him drawing her close. In a matter of heartbeats, his lips met hers.

She had been kissed before. But never like this. It was fire. She felt it burning all through her body and causing her senses all sort of sweet havoc. And then it ended. As fast and sudden as it had begun. He let her go. She looked at him, still a little bit shaken and saw that he was grinning happily like a little boy who just got permission to eat dessert before dinner.

"I hope you don't mind. I've wanted to do that since that first night we met. I'm glad I got that out of the way. Now I know how you taste." He winked. "Shall we?" Still shell-shocked, she quietly followed. They got to his car and she wasn't all that surprised to find out he drove a Porsche. He looked and smelled the part. Blushing a little as she remembered that he smelled like Bvlgari. She was almost certain he used the shower gel.

They got to the restaurant just in time to meet their reservation. It was a wonderful evening. After the shock of the kiss, she found she really enjoyed his company. He was very funny and quite smart. She found out he had his own company. He jokingly told her how his mother spoilt him rotten even though his dad died when he was still young. She ended up opening up to him about her family.  About her job. They had the same taste in music and movies.

On their way back to her place, the easy rapport continued. As they got closer though, she started fretting.  What if he wanted to come in for a nightcap? What if he kissed her again? What if he wanted to do more than just kiss her. All these was running through her mind as they got out of the car and he walked her to her door. When she got to her door, she turned to face him. "I had a really nice time tonight" "I'm glad you did. I enjoyed your company as well." She opened her door with shaky hands and entered. She faced him again. He smiled leaned forward and then at the last minute gave a friendly peck on the chin. "Goodnight Samantha." And with that he walked away briskly.

She closed her door. She heard him pull out of the parking lot. She entered her bedroom and started to undress. Why was she so disappointed that he didn't kiss her again? Isn't it better this way? Oh, who was she kidding...she loved the way that kiss made her feel and she wish he did it again. Sigh.
